Meet Tahoe Food Hub
Tahoe Food Hub (TFH) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Truckee, CA. The organization was founded in 2013 as a hub for local, sustainably grown food. TFH’s mission is to foster a food system that supports regenerative and sustainable farming practices by increasing access to local food in North Lake Tahoe. By addressing local food access challenges at a system level, TFH creates a hub for local food. A local food system benefits diversified family farms looking for fair market opportunities while increasing access to local food for our mountain community.
An Equitable Marketplace
The Tahoe Food Hub works with diversified, family farms, ranches, and specialty food producers within 150-miles of North Lake Tahoe. All producers must apply and meet our production standards demonstrating the use of regenerative agricultural methods, good husbandry, pasture-finished practices, and sourcing of local ingredients for specialty products.
Why Tahoe Food Hub
In North Lake Tahoe and Truckee, poverty and food insecurity are persistent challenges, despite the region's scenic beauty and bustling tourism. Households struggle to afford consistent nutritious meals, worsened by limited access to affordable fresh produce. Traditional food assistance programs often lack fresh, nutrient-dense options, perpetuating health disparities. The Giving Box program addresses this need by offering fresh, sustainably-grown produce to families, promoting healthy eating habits, and supporting local farmers.
The Giving Box Program
Currently, the Giving Box program distributes 60 boxes per week, yet the demand in our community remains unmet. There is a waitlist of requests for weekly pickups and additional requests surge during the holidays. Grants and donations are instrumental in ensuring the program's success, enabling it to thrive year-round, and allowing for program expansion to include more food-insecure families.
